About Gisanga coffee

Gisanga coffee is grown in Mbuye Sector, Ruhango District in the Southern Province of Rwanda. This
area lies at an altitude ranging between 1,650-1,850 m.a.s.l. on the high mountains of the Congo-Nile
Divide. This area constitutes one of the best elements of the Central plateau of the country with
rainfall of between 1,100-1,300 mm, and an annual average temperature of 18°C - 20°C., thus being
considered one of the most suitable regions to grow the major food crops in Rwanda. It features mainly
volcanic Inceptisols that have no accumulation of clays, iron oxide, aluminum oxide, or organic matter.
Gisanga washing station is used by 850 local farmers grouped under the Koakambu Cooperative. They
work with Tropic Coffee Ltd - a family-owned business founded in 2015 and operating in 3 regions of
Rwanda.
